Puppy Training/Soc. Puppy Kindergarten. Puppy Training & Socialization for puppies up to 5 months (6 for small breeds). Recommended starting age: 8-10 weeks. Your puppy will get a big dose of socialization, plus get started on all of the basic "obedience" skills. It's a rolling admission class, so you can start any time. Attend more than once weekly to get maximum benefit in this critical time. Click here for more info or view the registration page with the weekly schedule. Close Box Puppy Catch-Up Puppy Catch-Up class is a six-week class for training and socializing older puppies that didn't have a chance to take Puppy Training & Socialization Class at Ahimsa or elsewhere, or may have started a class, but weren't able to finish it. We will have play time in this class and teach the basics of sit, down, stay, come, leave it, and loose leash walking. We will also discuss some common puppy and adolescent dog issues, like jumping, pulling, biting, appropriate play, and housetraining. Dogs in this class should be non-aggressive and have all three of their DHLPP shots. Click here for more info or register below. Close Box Intermediate Puppy Intermediate Puppy (Puppy Jr. High) Adolescent dogs 5-9 months old begin to focus more and more with distractions in this class. The goal is to work toward off-leash reliability, which will be honed even more in Advanced Puppy. The format is the traditional once-weekly meeting. Pre-requisite: Must have taken a puppy class at Ahimsa or get instructor's permission. Click here for more info or register below. Close Box Advanced Puppy Advanced Puppy (Puppy College) Adolescent dogs 6-12 months old learn to really concentrate in this intensive, four-week, off-leash class. Dogs are expected to be somewhat well-behaved off leash at the beginning of class, but expect some chaos! You'll be impressed with the change by the end of this 6-session class if you fully participate. Format is the traditional once-weekly meeting. Make your training snappy! Advanced, four-session, class in the real world to teach reliability, precision, and accuracy for your the behaviors your clicker-savvy dog. Winter field trips are scheduled close to places with roofs... Co-requisites: Dog Manners 3, Better Manners or Advanced Puppy. Click here for more info or register below. Close Box	Orientation (Free!) Orientation - Intro to Dog Training is a one-hour introduction to positive reinforcement training, including how to train behaviors with the clicker and how to get rid of unwanted behaviors. This seminar is free for all people who enroll in classes at Ahimsa, as well as animal professionals (vets, vet techs, dog walkers, pet store employees, etc.) Click here for more info or see the schedule below. Close Box Dog Manners Dog Manners 1, 2, & 3 is our standard dog training class series for adult dogs. In this series of 3 four-week classes, your dog will learn to sit, lie down down, stay, come, leave it, and walk well on leash with distractions, and at a distance. Dog Manners students get a free front-attachment walking harness at an Orientation session, so please also look at the schedule to find an Orientation that you can attend. Close Box Terrier Manners Terrier-rific Basic and Better Manners classes cover approximately the same skills as our regular Manners series, but the lessons and problem-solving sessions are tailored to small terriers under 30 pounds. Pre-requisite for the Terrier-rific Better Manners class is Dog Manners 1, Terrier-rific Basic Manners, or Puppy Training & Socialization. Dogs must be at least 5 months old to enroll. Close Box Rally Obedience Rally Obedience is a great follow-up to our manners series, for people who want something fun and useful to do with their dogs. Rally-O is a competition sport, but you don't have to head toward competition to take this class. You'll get a chance to polish your dog's skills - especially heel, stay, and attention to you. Close Box CGC Test The Canine Good Citizen Test is offered by the AKC as a way for all breeds to prove that they have basic dog manners - sit, stay, greetings, grooming, polite walking, ability to be alone, and confidence with low-level distractions. Many insurance companies use the CGC test as a way to screen out "bad dogs." Click here for more info or register below. Close Box	Workshops Workshops and seminars are one-session discussions of one or two important topics. Workshops are hands-on, seminars are lecture-style. Some titles: Baby-Proofing Your Dog, Fraidy Dog, Responsible Dog Ownership, Coming When Called, Jump Into Agility, Anti-Jump, Walking on Leash, and Fun & Games. Click here for more info or register below. Close Box Barky Dog Barky Dog class teaches you how to get your barky dog to be quiet and focus on you. This class is for non-aggressive barkers, who simply bark out of frustration, for attention, for play, or for the sheer joy of hearing their own voices. If you have trouble taking a regular training class because your dog is too disruptive, Barky Dog class is for you! If your dog barks to get other dogs to go away, then our Growly Dog class is probably your best choice. Click here for more info or register below. Close Box Growly Dog Growly Dog class teaches you how to rehabilitate your aggressive dog. We focus primarily on aggression directed at other dogs, whether the main emotion is fear or anger (defensive or offensive aggression). If your dog is aggressive to people, rather than dogs, please contact Grisha to check whether the class or private lessons would be more appropriate. Please note the structure of the class: your dog will come to one class session and you will attend all 6 weeks. The idea is to teach you how to manage and train your dog, not to have a room full of aggressive dogs. As you watch the dog-of-the-day train, you will learn how to best work with your dog. We have volunteer dogs in each session. We systematically get the volunteer dogs closer to the student dog, keeping the student dog calm the entire time. Close Box Play Times Play Times We have had owner-present play times for small dogs and puppies since 2004. The dogs and humans alike have a great time! Bring your dog's shot records (usually a receipt from the vet), a few treats, and the payment - cash or check are easiest. Note: For the Puppy Play time, dogs must be under 5 months old and have at least the first set of shots, plus 10 days for it to sink in. If you take your puppy to a public park or dog daycare, they must have a bath before play time. For the Small Dog play time, dogs must be under 20 pounds and have all of their shots - that means 3 sets of the combo shot for puppies. Click here for more info or check out the schedule. Close Box Training Practice Free Training Practice. Ever feel like your dog works great at home, where you train, but not so great out in the world? Our new free practice sessions are open to all people that have taken, or are taking, a dog training class (not just a workshop) at Ahimsa. The class is supervised, but unstructured, so you can practice whatever your dog needs help with. Excellent as preparation for the Canine Good Citizen Test! There is no need to register in advance, but please bring a copy of your dog's vaccinations. The session is limited to 8 dogs, so arrive on time or early.
